Having sex has many benefits for women, both physically and emotionally. It can help to balance hormones, reduce stress, and improve overall health and well-being. As a general guideline, your sex drive will increase in the first half of your period (the follicular phase and ovulation) and decrease in the second half (the luteal phase and menstruation). This is due to natural fluctuations in the many hormones at work, such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
So don’t feel like something’s wrong with you because your sex drive fluctuates. It’s perfectly normal!
If your goal is to increase your sex drive, there are some things you should consider:
Oxytocin, endorphins, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone rise during sex. These hormones are linked to increased immune system response, higher energy levels, decreased stress, and even youthful effects like glowing skin. It is believed that the oxytocin released during sexual activity can boost feelings of love and affection, and reduce stress and anxiety. The release of endorphins can ease pain in the body because of their “natural pain killer” effect, too! Many women have experienced PMS symptoms like body aches, soreness, and migraines reduced after sex.
Additionally, regular sex can help to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which can help with bladder control and improve sexual satisfaction.
From a physical standpoint, having sex can help improve libido. Sex drive can increase due to the increase in oxytocin, endorphins, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone (see section above). But having regular sex is linked to increased vaginal wetness and more feeling and sensitivity in the pelvic area. That means everything feels so much better!
What about the more challenging times of the month like PMS week and menstruation?
Many women avoid having sex during this time because they feel fatigued or because it is messy and inconvenient. However, frequent intercourse is linked to easing cramps and soreness, as well as lighter PMS symptoms. So we’re basically saying you won’t want to stop once you start!
On an emotional level, having sex can help to foster a strong bond between partners. Intimacy and closeness can also lead to improved communication and understanding within a relationship. In addition, women who have regular sex tend to have higher self-esteem and body image because they feel more desirable.
Also, don’t think just because you’re single you can enjoy all the “bennies” of sex. Masturbation is just as effective and will achieve the same benefits as having sex with a partner. So grab your favorite toy or limber up those digits and get to work. 😛
